Taking early Strategy& internship offer?

I'm a rising junior that recently received an internship offer for 2021 at Strategy& that I need to commit to before regular recruiting, and I'm unsure if I want to take it. It's in my top office (U.S.) in the practice area that I am most interested in, and in this case, I see S&'s vertical alignment as a slight pro. In addition, because I received my offer so early, I have a lot of time to network internally.

However, I am very concerned about the stories I hear about S&'s grueling work hours and culture - I would likely plan to rerecruit for full-time regardless. Should I bet on myself and reject Strategy&'s offer, hoping to get a better offer during the normal intern campus recruiting period? More broadly, are there expectations that this year's internship recruiting will be more competitive than usual because firms may reduce slots because of COVID?

For context, I'm at a target school as well. Any insight on weighing S&'s offer would be appreciated.

id personally take it but depends on how confident you are about getting a better offer - strategy& in a top office and practice should still set you up pretty well for full time recruiting from a target. how'd you get an offer this early?

why did u recruit in the first place?

use it to get a better / accelerated offer or just take it.

if you got this offer you can prolly get an offer at a better place but you have no idea until you do. simple and decision you have to make is all a personal reflection.

you need to do some reflection. other ppl don’t have the answer other than my first two sentences. or if you can’t accelerate try and talk to people who actually work there. you’re at a target so reach out and let them know your concerns man that’s the best shot you have. good luck make sure to talk to alumni ASAP.

I recruited because I figured it couldn't hurt and I'd cross the bridge of deciding on the offer after I actually received the offer. You're right about reaching out to alumni! Just posted to see if there are any additional factors I should think about

Take it. Recruiting next year is going to be a disaster and S& is a great firm. You'll learn as much there as you would have anywhere else. You also have essentially all fall / winter to get good grades, take on big projects, and enjoy college.

Frankly, I would probably take it if management/strategy consulting is your goal. Lots of value in option value these days. Worst case scenario some material change occurs in your thinking or their business and you re-recruit in several months at regular timing for other firms and you're no worse off than anyone else. Best case scenario you get a meaningful internship experience and either find S& a good place to be or get good experience to take to a different full-time role.

If your interest is MBB, internship recruiting is typically tougher than full time - particularly so amidst the upcoming economic downturn. I interned at another consulting firm prior to MBB full time myself. You may have significantly more options recruiting full time fall of 2021 than you will for internships in fall of 2020 (fingers crossed).
