The Farm of The Future

The agriculture industry has not been innovated in the last 10 years and this Beijing startup is trying to change that. Alesca Life is the name of the company and have started creating farms inside shipping containers. Their Beijing container can produce up to 60kg of vegetables per week with no soil at all. They only use water, LED lights, and a monitoring app.

Alesca Life's containers can harvest up to 26 times a year, while a regular farm can only harvest 4-6 times. However, the incredibly high costs of setting up a container means they must charge 13x more for vegetables than regular farms. Right now, their main customers are very high end restaurants who can afford the prices. Their biggest goal in the future is to support this type of farming in outer space.

  • Could this be the future of the agriculture business?
  • What are the major flaws?

This is not the future of farming, at least anytime soon. One major flaw is having to charge 13x for vegetables. I suppose in areas where it is difficult to grow food it could take off, however, those places will most likely not be able to afford the production.

Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.
