The new TV show "Revolution"
What are your thoughts on the new show "Revolution?" For those of you who haven't seen it yet, the premise is that one day the world loses all power and electricity, and we are basically relegated to the way things were pre-1750 or so. Society completely breaks down, the U.S. federal government disintegrates, and what was once U.S.A. is now ruled by various warlords. The show follows a family 15 years after the "blackout," as it tries to reunite and figure out what happened and how to restore power.
I'm usually very skeptical of these post-apocalyptic shows, with the failures of shows such as "flash forward" and "the event." This one however shows some promise although i have major beefs with the acting as well as some basic premises. The last episode was actually quite good because of several interesting twists.
Haven't seen the last episode yet, but I watched the first two. It's pretty interesting, but I'd expect nothing less from Jon Favreau. I'm enjoying it so far.
On one hand, the concept is solid. But I think it could be better executed off broadcast TV. "Post-apocalyptic military dictatorships" and "ABC" do not mesh well.
I also have little confidence in ABC's writing staff. They've done a reasonably good job so far, but I think it is a matter of time before they start falling back on stale tropes. I expect it to eventually fall into the "story of the week" category, with the question of "what caused the blackout?" providing an overall story arch.
I think Revolution might develop like Terra Nova did on Fox - I would be surprised if it got renewed. I also have to imagine production costs are higher than ABCs average show.
Premise is good, writing so far has not been good IMO. I probably won't stick around.
