When I was in Ag Commodity trading we would use DTN/ProphetX for charting. I've also seen QST used.
Very curious to see what, if anything, other Power traders use for charting/quotes.
Can't really speak to other asset classes.
SierraChart..hands down. Fully programmable, with access to tick level trade data for volume analysis.
Only negative is that its just for Futures...but if you are a futures trader, then Sierra hands down winner
all in, sierra chart costs ~ $70/month
Does it give real time data? I pay like 115 a month for GLOBEX fees on tradingview...
yes, and if you use this link to signup you get a 2 week free trial of the software SierraChart
I think i pay ~$30/month for the charting software (package 5), and then an additional $38/month for the realtime futures data feed for Globex.
So I use CQG for my daily trading, which is approx 2 grand a month... and I also use tradingview on the side for fun and I actually pay extra for their GLOBEX data to get real time futures, which is like 120 bucks a month and the data has too many discrepancies, with the actually market data hence why I'm cancelling it right away and not to mention the charts don't line up with my CQG platforms and throws me off.
Nice thing is, it's cheap... if you get pro version, you can get a lot out of it with different products
And algo trading is great, I mean I'm trading dozens of instruments at once. Is it perfect? No... market conditions changes and you have to adjust you algo to fit the current condition and you may be wrong and get screwed. Yes, I still trade discretionary on the side. One issue I have with algo, it will never be 100 percent perfect. I have thousands of hours of screentime and helped me gain an edge from seeing it all the time and gives me a view but the algo only knows input and spits out an output and may get in too early and get ran over but having full discretionary sometimes give you an edge. If you're a good trader, the trader will always know the market before hand but the the algo is just to streamline the traders thought but may not work 100 percent spot on

Can someone fill me in on why using Think or Swim for charting commodities and simulating option trades (retail account) is a bad idea? Just curious.
