Thoughts on Piper Sandler
Hello WSO community. I am currently exploring banking options and would like to focus on healthcare. My career center mentioned Piper Sandler. Any thoughts? (Would like to work in NY- if that matters)

Heard it was a sweatshop. Then again, which bank isn’t. But I did hear that PS was specifically known for being one. Obviously just take everything w a grain of salt
Spoke with someone there recently who said that conditions have improved since the wso post about their hours/culture. Obviously working hard still but think that they're definitely more cautious ever since that post
bump
Well-respected vertical for them that punches above its weight (lots of former BB MDs). I think NYC is more heavily Pharma and Life Sciences focus.
Other decent MM HC options in NYC are Cain Brothers (Keybank), Edgemont (not sure they have a formal hiring process though).
Edgemont had FT postings on my school's career website in the fall. Not sure if / where they recruit on campus (or virtually now), though.
Does anyone have any insight on how Piper Sandler stacks up against other prominent MM players after it’s acquisition of Sandler O’Neil and The Valence Group.
Obviously competitively, but it depends on the industry vertical, as with many MMs.
TVG acquisition sets them up extremely well in the chemicals space (TVG routinely won bakeoffs against the BB's/EB's in chemicals transactions & senior mgmt is excellent). Sandler is a premier FIG name, of course.
Seems like a growing bank, don;t know much tho
Keep in mind HC at Piper is split in 3 verticals - Medtech, HCIT, Biopharma. Biopharma you'll tend to do more cap markets deals / private placements / smaller deals than the other 2, but from an outsider's perspective I thought they had the best culture. Medtech is where Piper really earned its reputation in HC and is probably the strongest group out of all of "legacy" Piper (so excluding Simmons for Energy, Sandler for FIG). HCIT is super sweaty - active group though.
Above is a couple years out of date though and certainly Minneapolis focused, so anyone who's still there feel free to chime in. NY if I remember correctly wasn't split between the verticals and did more pharma / life sciences stuff as Tony said (also I think like anything that was animal health related).
I’ve heard it’s solid deal flow. I go to a mega non- target and have a few alumni that have placed into SE offices. I think they led Q1 M&A if that means anything to you
led Q1 M&A FIG deals
What SE office(s) do they have that does banking other than Charlotte?
??? What are you talking about? What is your source that Piper led Q1 M&A and what does that even mean? Size? Volume? Value? Industry?

That SP article was what I was referring to. Honest mistake on my end. But no need to freak out bro...... Lol

Thanks! Are you 100% certain Analyst 1 base is $85k? Is this the same for all offices? If not which office does this apply to and what are the bases at others. Thanks again!
