Thoughts on Piper Sandler

Hello WSO community. I am currently exploring banking options and would like to focus on healthcare. My career center mentioned Piper Sandler. Any thoughts? (Would like to work in NY- if that matters)

Spoke with someone there recently who said that conditions have improved since the wso post about their hours/culture. Obviously working hard still but think that they're definitely more cautious ever since that post

Does anyone have any insight on how Piper Sandler stacks up against other prominent MM players after it’s acquisition of Sandler O’Neil and The Valence Group.

TVG acquisition sets them up extremely well in the chemicals space (TVG routinely won bakeoffs against the BB's/EB's in chemicals transactions & senior mgmt is excellent). Sandler is a premier FIG name, of course.

Show me the incentive and I'll show you the outcome.

Keep in mind HC at Piper is split in 3 verticals - Medtech, HCIT, Biopharma. Biopharma you'll tend to do more cap markets deals / private placements / smaller deals than the other 2, but from an outsider's perspective I thought they had the best culture. Medtech is where Piper really earned its reputation in HC and is probably the strongest group out of all of "legacy" Piper (so excluding Simmons for Energy, Sandler for FIG). HCIT is super sweaty - active group though.

Above is a couple years out of date though and certainly Minneapolis focused, so anyone who's still there feel free to chime in. NY if I remember correctly wasn't split between the verticals and did more pharma / life sciences stuff as Tony said (also I think like anything that was animal health related).

??? What are you talking about? What is your source that Piper led Q1 M&A and what does that even mean? Size? Volume? Value? Industry?
