Tier2 candidate - what investment strategies should I target?

Hi guys:

I'm currently at an okay-but-not-great PE fund (in terms of reputation) and looking to lateral for an experienced associate/senior associate position. I don't have the resume to recruit for the best / most prestigious PE funds, but I like investing, and I'm flexible in terms of the type of investing I do.

I have been trying to think about what type of opportunities to target next, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. After some self-reflection, I think the following qualities below are the most important to me in what I'm looking for in my next role (I understand that it will be hard to fulfill them all at once). I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on - if these are the things I'm looking for, then what type of fund/investment strategy should I try to target? (I'm a decent but not great candidate, and understand that certain opportunities are out of my reach).

  1. Velocity of deals/underwriting of investments
  2. Depth of diligence - still equity like thinking
  3. A seat at the table/ structuring a deal
  4. Stable growing platform
  5. Ability to fundraise
  6. Smart people who are interested in investing rather than politics / doing deals (though I understand that politics exist everywhere and doing deals/growing AUM is name of the game some times, I just don't want them to be the only thing that matter at the institution)

Thanks!
