depends where and the costs. Banks 5% HFs 10%
What about at a super major?
Donald Porteous at BP was $40m one year. Couldn't really point to a name but $50m for top crude guys at Vitol sounds plausible.
financial traders don't get rewarded as well?
Sure, the original question was for physical. Andrew Hall $100m at Citi/Phibro is one example. And then John Arnold is a whole different story.
More as financial trading is cheaper
I've heard guys even at some of the utilities (Nextera, Constellation, etc) got up to $3MM. The caveat there was comp was deferred over a few years.
I've seen 8MM from a top performing desk head. I haven't been close to that on absolute percentage terms, but definitely less than 1 order of magnitude away. Funny thing is, you hit restart like everyone else on the new fiscal and you just grind it out in q1 like everyone else (albeit with much larger drawdowns).
What type of shop is this trading house/supermajor/bank?
Lets set the parameters.
Old era: pre-shale
New era: post shale
Old era? 200 million+ (147 TI, 6 NG)
New Era: as others have stated, 5 to 8 spread generally across three to five years. Which, by the way, is still a great life and great pay.
Namaste
D.O.U.G.
Is this also the case for traders in "less prestigious" majors like Total, ENI, Chevron, Equinor?
