Trading Desk Quant at Large AM -> Macro Investing Role - How to Transition?

So I've been working at a large AM on the trading as a quant for a few years and prior to that I spent some time in global macro research at a BB. I want to move away from trading as it is execution only and want to move back into something global macro investing related.

I've already tried applying to the few macro investing roles I am able to find (HFs, AMs and bank research desks) but I can't even seem to get to a first round interview. Moving internally might not be possible as there are very few macro seats that don't really open up. So i'm feeling somewhat demoralised and hoping if anyone can make any suggestions about making this transition?

FWIW I'm in London.

Unfortunately for me, both of my degrees (Bsc and Msc) are in economics which has made landing interviews in systematic shops near impossible - the usual feedback being that I need a STEM degree to have a shot.

I would have figured that my background would have been more than good enough to at least land interviews for analyst roles at banks? But I can't even seem to get a response from the much smaller European banks for these openings.
