Tulane Undergrad = Target?

Hey guys,

I am currently a rising sophomore at Tulane and I was wondering what do you guys think of our program with respect to IB, S&T, ER placement. And given that Tulane is certainly not a historical target, what can one do to break into a renowned firm?

I have pretty top-notch stats and turned down more prestigious institutions in lieu of a half-tuition scholarship at Tulane. I have solid internship experience in high-tech, as well. I do not wish to work in Houston after graduation, but I am pursuing the Energy Specialization within the Finance major, alongside minors in Computer Science & Mathematics.

I appreciate your input.

Tulane places just fine, if you have a solid GPA from there you should be able to place at a lot of tier 2 shops, or tier 1 shops if you network your butt off. The main hook ups Tulane has are in Houston unfortunately, Conoco Phillips, Sequent, and other energy companies.

However, there are plenty of kids that end up at Morgan Keegan, Global Hunter, Piper Jaffray, Suntrust, Raymond James (now partenered with MK), and even a few BBs thrown in. Honestly it depends on what you want to do. At the aforementioned places kids usually place into banking/ ER. If you want to do trading, there is OCR for a few of the Chicago shops.

I know a couple of folks who got in CS, DB, JPM. Keep your hope up and work hard! I'm also a Tulanian ! And I got many internship opportunities with various firms.

Tulane is not a target school (No organized form of recruiting like Ivy schools), but GS and other firms do recruit directly from Tulane. You have to STANDOUT and also be prepared.
