UK Gov't's plans for banking in the next 5 years
"Banking system to be reformed, with banking levy introduced. "Robust action" to tackle "unacceptable bonuses". Plans to ensure flow of funds to small businesses. Independent commission to look at separating retail and investment parts of banks. Joining the euro during this Parliament ruled out. "

In hindsight, not going to work in England was the best decision I have ever made.
Thank god I left England years ago!
I need to get the fuck out of this country. Anybody hiring back home?
The mere fact that banking comes first reeks of populism.
I'm so glad I'm on the buyside.
You think hedgies and PE are going to get away scot-free? Have you not seen the new EU legislation?
I need to get the hell out of this place. Australia using the miners as a punching bag instead, think I'm gonna move back home.
I'm really questioning getting my Msc. in Finance in the UK now... especially with the Euro and Pound tanking.
Someone lock Vince Cable and all them socialist european bureaucrats up before they ruin the country.
This is ridiculous...don't these politicians understand that this will hurt the UK economy in the long run. The UK service sector, which is dominated by financial services (i.e. banking), makes up approximately 70% of the GDP. I can maybe understand the levy (tax) on the banks - this will just be passed on to customers - but the proposal to break off retail and investment banking arms?? And regulating bonuses will just cause bankers, or should I say the intellectual capital, to transfer to other countries.
Tbh I'd imagine they know that regulating bonuses is a non-starter, it's unworkable and probably illegal in any direct form. On the positive side if the Europeans institute a transaction tax it will push even more business into London.
I thought the Tories won..
proud to be a citizen of the Good Ol' U.S. of A. Sucks for the English bankers out there though.
I don't understand the logic in wanting to drown the financial system. The UK sold off a chunk of their industries to focus on the financial sector. Their GDP is going to get real ugly.
What's unacceptable about their bonuses? The fact that they are bigger than parliaments?
I'm starting a career in IBD in the UK and I must say that I was pretty shit scared when they started discussing all these measures a few months ago.. However, I don't think they will implement any of these things and if they do it will end up being diluted 100000x.
