Wall Street in Manila, Philippines

Breaking into the cutthroat world of investment banking is tough even here in Manila. Fortunately, the culture here is that someone like me in his early thirties who spent a decade in consumer banking (mostly in New Jersey) and Asset Management, isn't considered a dinosaur yet. I'm surrounded by bright young things two-thirds my age, but I'm glad to say I more than keep up for someone who never went to B-School nor got an MBA, CPA or CFA. What's life like for a 1st year Equities Researcher here versus States-side? Pretty much the same, except pay is crap, hardly any perks, we don't stay as late as you and yet seem so industrious at 60 hours a week, in addition to power-points and excel models, we actually write pieces for publication to our clients. I totally relate to everything on this site and am so glad to have found it. Oh, and over here, Sell-Siders are more prestigious than buy-siders.

Is pay in the industry above average though? Clearly the pay would be much lower in nominal terms, but what about purchasing power?
