What happens after business school?

For someone who followed a standard investment banking analyst to private equity analyst to business school path, where do they typically go afterwards? I assume they wouldn't want to go back to banking since they already got out, so is private equity where most people go?

Do people also go into industry? I always hear that people go to banking for exit opps to different industries, but I also hear banking is harder to get into and more stressful than those industries, so why no just cut the middle, do corporate development at a F500 at graduate, move up, and be at the exact same place 10 years down the line?

Banking is typically a stepping stone into the buyside world. Mainly into private equity and hedge funds. It's good for venture capital but not necessary. Even with an MBA from a top program, without previous banking experience it can be difficult to break into many private equity firms.
