where do you go from here?

I started out as a trader in a prop trading firm and eventually found myself doing mostly quant work (as I'm doing mostly full-time now). it's a successful firm, but I find myself bored or aggravated more often than I'd like, and I still obsess over the markets like a trader. problem is, I don't think my firm's trading style fits me that well, and while it pays well, it's not the kind of place where you're going to make million-dollar bonuses.

end of year bonuses are soon, which means a pivotal moment - do you hang around until the next one, or seek out something greater? I have zero connections in the hedge fund world, and zero connections in the ibanking world. is it hopelessly unrealistic to dream about becoming a hotshot at a top hedge fund? I'm hesitant to send out resumes out of fear of my firm finding out, but otherwise I have no clue what another job would be like, not to mention no idea if it would pay any better.
