Where should I go?
Sorry for posting this on here. Not pertaining directly to investment banking but i was after the most replies.
Okay so I'm pretty interested in finance and want to work in finance in the future. Even got a investment banking internship this summer at a small local boutique, had to cold call/email 23 firms/HFs and 2 replied, got an offer from one. Am a HS senior now and will be joining college this fall.
Wanted to get some comments on this. I haven't asked the MD who hired me about this yet. Going to do it soon. I wanna study engineering cos I like the subject but don't want to be an engineer because I won't like working as one (I come from a family of Engineers). Would like to be in tech IB/PE in the future. The shop I would be interning at is mostly tech/telecom focused too.
If you were me, which one would you choose? I got into a few but have narrowed down to Electrical and Computer Engineering at UMichigan or ECE/CS at CMU (got into both). Assume I get preferred admission to the Ross Business School at Michigan (Dual degree engineering + business). Can do a dual degree at CMU too but Tepper isn't as good. My parents like CMU more because it has a better international rep. Is that true? Also, CMU has this which is pretty cool: http://www.math.cmu.edu/~bscf/ but seems more for S&T than for IB.
I'm international so cost isn't a factor. Comments? Very hard for me to decide. :S

Both are great schools. I would go to UMich because I've met more of their alumni on WS and they go to great lengths to help fellow students out. If you plan on working internationally and not in the US, CMU is the way to go.

I'd say UMich, because, as you say, it has the better business school. It also has more alumni on the street. I disagree that CMU has an international reputation, except maybe in engineering circles, which is irrelevant. Most Europeans only know a handful of US schools, and outside of Europe most people will only know Harvard.
More importantly, you'll have a lot more fun at Michigan. Big Ten Athletics vs what, exactly?
If you want to get a street job I would recomend a BBA in finance along with a CS degree with a focus in programing. That will look really good granted you maintain a strong gpa. The programing will come in very handy when applying to jobs if you become interested in trading while you are at school. The finance degree will give you a great shot at ibd jobs. Just remember that a great GPA (3.5+ on the US scale) will be your ticket to getting interviews.
