Where will Amazon have HQ2? Any updates beyond the top 20?
I've heard its between Austin, DC, Boston, Raleigh, and a couple others. Has anyone heard differently?

Bet is in Austin.
It's gonna be D.C. Metro area. Good time to buy JBG Smith, but it's already priced into the stock.
Full scale redevelopment of Crystal City makes the most sense to me
good call
+1
Really makes you realize nothing Bezos is doing is actually magic.
Bring in the Naners, +1, good call, you got any magic 8 ball insight as to why they would choose to split the locations? Especially in NY?
Why do you think it will be D.C? Austin doesn't sound like a bad play but the infrastructure would need work to support 50,000 new jobs.
It might be prudent for Amazon to grow deep roots in Washington (i.e. keeping potential future enemies close, like the DOJ). Plus Bezos owns the Post already and I believe he is currently building/renovating what will become the second largest private residence in town (after The White House).
Industry gossip from developers.
It's obviously going to be D.C.
I think Austin is a great city, but do you really think the soon-to-be most valuable company in the world is going to make it their second headquarters?
Bezos doesn't need access to the capital markets - not really anyways - so he doesn't need to cozy up to bankers in New York.
He does, however, need to protect himself from anti-trust legislation, and nothing says "I'm a great guy!" like throwing swanky parties in your $23 million dollar palace.
My bets are Boston. Boston pretty much matches what they could possibly want except for the expensive cost of living.
I would say Boston or DC seems to be likely choices. DC is most closely related to where Amazon is with Bezos' growing attention from Washington, owning the Post, and building his BSD residence.
Boston seems to have more techies but DC is not too bad with UVA about 2 hours away, UMD right within the metro area, JHU not far in Baltimore, and G-town and GWU within DC.
But mostly, DC has been quietly growing its startup scene and young tech people. I think DC looks likely but who knows.
Thought Atlanta is still in the game?
I still think Atlanta will get it.
They can go wherever they want, so long as it isn't Dallas.
Being a non-landowner here, you would get hosed big time on rents going up. Traffic would only continue to get worse here as well turning Dallas into a Texas-LA
Boston.
They won't dissuade them but they sure as hell aren't going to incentivize them. Plus, Amazon would probably cripple an already failing infrastructure.
The update is D.C./Arlington VA. The update is not based on arguments (this is the best location because...)--it's based on industry chatter among developers, JBG's boasting, and the boasting of Arlington politicians as if it's a foregone conclusion. I hope they're wrong, honestly, as an Arlington resident.
