It's obviously going to be D.C.

I think Austin is a great city, but do you really think the soon-to-be most valuable company in the world is going to make it their second headquarters?

Bezos doesn't need access to the capital markets - not really anyways - so he doesn't need to cozy up to bankers in New York.

He does, however, need to protect himself from anti-trust legislation, and nothing says "I'm a great guy!" like throwing swanky parties in your $23 million dollar palace.

I would say Boston or DC seems to be likely choices. DC is most closely related to where Amazon is with Bezos' growing attention from Washington, owning the Post, and building his BSD residence.

Boston seems to have more techies but DC is not too bad with UVA about 2 hours away, UMD right within the metro area, JHU not far in Baltimore, and G-town and GWU within DC.

But mostly, DC has been quietly growing its startup scene and young tech people. I think DC looks likely but who knows.

The update is D.C./Arlington VA. The update is not based on arguments (this is the best location because...)--it's based on industry chatter among developers, JBG's boasting, and the boasting of Arlington politicians as if it's a foregone conclusion. I hope they're wrong, honestly, as an Arlington resident.
