which msc finance with extremely low gpa and good gmat, with my detailed profile

hi lads,
I have recently graduated from Bilkent University industrial engineering program which is one of the Turkey's best engineering schools and also currently ranked by the Times Higher Education as the 98th best school around the world for engineering and technology. I'm looking for a master in finance in U.S.A or Europe but U.S.A is more preferred.

I'm thinking to apply for 2014-2015 to WUSTL, Tulane, Fordham(master of global finance), Northeastern, University of Southern California , UT at Dallas, Rollins College(early MBA with finance specialization), LSE(msc finance), Bocconi, ESADE.

Considering my profile below, can you say which schools should I apply and what are my chances ?Can you suggest more schools please ?
I know it is mostly possible that I will be rejected from all I listed above because of my extremely low gpa, but anyway I'd like to give it a shot.

Here is my detailed profile;

-2.29 gpa ( yeapp lots of partying and also I didn't care about the courses very much because I know I will start to work in our family business after graduation so I haven't got any job concern. I just try to get the essence of the courses and points to pass the finals). B+ form calculus II, B- from Algorithms and Programming I, B- from Introduction to Probability, C- from Stochastic Models ( while the curve was F for this course)

-I haven't taken GMAT yet. but I think I will get a score around 680-700

- 6 months exchange experience in a prestigious Belgian university. I took three master courses in marketing and international business and passed all of them.

- 4 year voluntary work in a NGO, directly participated in organization of several charity events

- 1 month engineering summer internship in a Turkish company which is really good in defence industry

-1 month management summer internship in an international firms factory located in Turkey.

-1 month advisory summer internship in Ernst and Young Turkey office( manager said that he can give a reference for my applications)

- 6 month finance related work experience in a local company. (part-time for previous five months but started to work in full time after the graduation last month.)

- a couple of participation in some international academic student events around Europe and Turkey.

- for applying USC, I might be able to get a reference form one of my former professors who got his phd from the business school of USC. Will it make any difference?

- Also I might be able to get references from two of my former professors who currently give lectures in some prestigious universities in america.

Im not seeking for any scholarship( I know it is impossible to get one with this gpa) or for a job in USA after graduation, getting a couple of years international work experience would not be bad though. We have a family business and probably I will start work at that after obtaining my master degree. I want this master of finance degree to enhance my financial knowledge which will be very beneficial to improve our family business company and transform it into a bigger one. In the future, I want to start some international business by expanding the company into international markets. I know I will study hard during the master programme unlike ı did in my undergrad education because master programme will have direct effect in my future plans.

Should I mention about these family business things in the application essays ?

thanks for any response,

I would basically lay it out in your essays. You'd be a good applicant since you don't need to be placed and money isn't a big issue. I see your GPA being a little issue, but explain it like you did here and also emphasize your work experience. If you do well with your GMAT you should be fine.

WUSTL, Tulane, USC, LSE and Bocconi. I would probably add some other safety schools on your list. Maybe SMU (for Dallas), maybe Santa Clara for Cali. I am trying to think of schools in good locations with slightly lower admissions standards so you can get a great education, but also enjoy your time here.

what are the opinions for the WUSTL's dual degree progam with Yonsei University, and Fordhams Global finance about their admission competitiveness and education quality ? Will the dual degree program be less competitive than the normal WUSTL Msc Finance ?

I think WUSTL's dual degree is great, although I don't know if your stats would qualify you for it. Either way, WUSTL is one of the top MSF programs in the US.

Don't know too much about Fordham. I have heard they have a large MSF class. You basically set your own pace. Would be a decent program and relatively "easy" to get into. The global aspect might interest you.

I don't think you have much of a shot at WUSTL to be honest. I don't think anyone in the program has a GPA even remotely that low. The international students typically have stellar academic stats. 3.6+ GPA with 735+ average GMAT. But who knows, you should apply and see what happens. Their application process is really simple.

yeaah I know my gpa is extremly for their average admitted gpa but as you said I m gonna give it a try. Do you have any school suggestion for me to apply, regarding my profile ? I really need schools suggestions which are more realistic for me to get admitted unlike .

Unless you destroy the GMAT quant section, to do well on the GMAT requires, more or less, native level English skills. I'm a native English speaker who scored in the 95th percentile on my high school verbal SATs, but even I found the GMAT verbal to be difficult. So I would definitely make sure you have the ability to get in the 680-700 range before making any other plans.

Hello everyone,

Since I saw someone from Turkey I decided to post under this topic (also i'm not sure if i can start a new topic) I'm a junior-year student in Istanbul Uni. School of Business (which has 4 palmes in eduniversal ranking of bSchools and accredited with AACSB too). I currently have a high GPA (3.85/4.00) and attended ERASMUS at a Grandes Ecole in Paris (no, not HEC :/ ) . I've got IELTS as well (7.5/9) and currently working as an ER Intern at a mid sized brokerage house-M&A firm, hoping to secure a treasury internship at the 2nd biggest bank of Turkey. I'll definitely take GMAT soon. I'm thinking of doing an MSF in Europe (Switzerland, Germany,UK,Sweden) and if I get into a program that (almost) secures a good job i'm intended to stay there. yet i'm not EU citizen and Turks are not very welcomed in everywhere as far as I noticed. So assuming i get a gmat score around 650-680, what'd be my chances to get a place at SSE, St.Gallen, U of Zürich, HEC Lausanne, WHU, EBS, and maybe LSE, and afterwards stay there for at least a couple of years and maybe come back home? (btw CFA partnership would be great since I'm intended to get one soon as possible)
