Which University is the most worthwhile?
Hello all, I've been a lurker for about a year now and am finally ready to ask something relevant. Im finishing up first semester of senior year and am right in the thick of finding where to attend college. I am planning on majoring in finance with a math minor or double majoring with economics. Bottomline I need any advice you guys could give me on which colleges would give me the best opportunities for a career in high finance. I've applied to Texas A&m- (in state- accepted) University of Georgia- (received instate- accepted) Ole miss-(hoping for a lot of scholarship) Wake Forest University of Virginia (large reach) Washington and Lee( worried about small student body)
I know Virginia is without a doubt the best school here, but with that being a reach, what about Texas A&M and Georgia? Will these give me good chances of landing a job in NYC or D.C. (would like to live in D.C. after graduation)?
pm me.
Texas A&M is heavy target for O&G groups, namely Morgan Stanley.
where are O&G mainly located? Houston? Dallas?
If you live in Texas, why didn't you apply to UT Austin? Placement is far better than A&M May's. I know from first hand experience. Also whoever wrote A&M is a heavy target... is obviously misinformed and biased.
Ok my mistake, I had a superday as a Canadian non-target at J.P. Morgan's houston office (sorry not MS, I meant JPM) and everyone there was from Texas A&M (I don't know anything about those schools its just what I saw).
UVA is without a doubt the best choice, all else equal, given that they're becoming a core school for lots of the big name banks. However, if you don't get in there, go for a large state school, since that would provide the best opportunity for you to both find alumni on the street and for your to differentiate yourself from others at your school. Once you've networked through to a lot of the banks, the key comes down to making yourself seem better than all the other candidates from your school, since they're the closest comparisons to you, from a bank's perspective.
