Why are hedge funds allowed to publicly disclose their investments?
Is this not a conflict of interest? Also does this mean that as a retail investor, I should just be picking the stocks that Carl Icahn and Warren Buffet buy? Because regardless of whether or not their investment is sound the market will move in their favor when they publicly disclose their stake....?
Conflict of interest for who? HF's perform deep research and need the publicity to ensure their investments come to fruition. Doesn't always ensure the herd will follow, though (i.e. HLF). Just b/c one of the big guys buy, doesn't mean you should blindly throw money at it. Use your brain.
Buffet has some sort of agreement with the SECOND where his disclosure is delayed. Due to the fact of people attempting to ride his coat tails. Also, people used to try mirror/cherry-picking from big time MF's, such as the fidelity Magellan fund. Either way, this isn't changing any time soon
