As we go through life, we rack up a tally of achievements while simultaneously becoming more aware of how big the world is, which makes those achievements (and ourselves) seem continually smaller. But for many, the yuppie stage is a blissful inbalance of self absorbance and naivety, major disappointment or real responsibilities will eventually bring things back to equilibrium.

I'd argue that yuppie morale is actually on the low given mainstream culture's repudiation of corporate-ascertained wealth in the wake of GFC, while hipster sweet-dick arrogance is at a nauseating all-time high.

Then again, one might argue that the hipsters of today are just the yuppies of the 80s, only with more interest in home-brew than Reaganomics.
