I am no where near at a business proficient level ...... would it be useful in investment banking?

Highly improbable.

EDIT: I just didn't want to sound rude. In short, no.

Νο use in the finance world? Should I stick to learning it for personal reasons then?

I spent 2 years learning Mandarin. Luckily for me, I learned to love the culture and language (and women). Why am I lucky? Unless you are 10,000% proficient in the language, it won't be useful at all.

What is proficient? Being able to write a research report under heavy time constraint (as often happens in finance); getting those tiny details down on that pitchbook your associate wants by 6AM; keeping up with people who have spoken the language for their entire lives.

In short, it is not worth learning a language for business unless you can pick up near-native fluency within a reasonable timeframe and with some level of effectiveness in the effort you put in (flying to Greece every vacation you get is not terribly effective).

That said, if you really like it, keep at it and pick up some hot Greek babes.

I think learning Greek could actually be very useful. Pretty soon greek islands will be going for about 50mm drachma (I'm guessing about 500k USD) when the government has to start selling off public assets and is firing up the printing press. You could be a broker for high net worth Americans looking to diversify their real estate portfolios.
