Here's my story: did BB IBD summer analyst in the summer after my junior year more than 4 years ago. I quit 6 weeks into the internship because I just didn't like the hours and felt it wasn't for me, graduated, and has been doing something else (non-finance) for 4 years since. Now I am considering going for an MBA and breaking back into IBD at a BB.

I'm just thinking out loud but it sounds like you may be better off just not listing it on your resume. I think it shows more red flags since they will assume you didn't get an offer/couldn't handle it/didn't like it.
thanks. I did consider not putting it down, but then again it is my one and only finance/IBD work experience. As long as they don't probe too much into why I quit halfway/why my internship is so short, I think it would help more than hurt.
Won't you have to disclose it during the background check as prior employment in the last 7 years?
right - and how detailed is the background check? My internship started and ended in different calendar months, so it still shows up as Jun - Jul on my resume, but will the background check turn up the exact number of weeks? Also, can they BG check my reasons and circumstances of leaving?
Background check guys are some underpaid tards that can barely understand english that couldn't care less. If it's too complicated for them they'll happily skip that part.
I knew a guy that had a horrible resume full of bullshit and that passed all background checks by making his form completely bloated with random stuff and impossible to understand without big efforts.

There are lots of non-standard, bespoke internships out there so I don't think the dates will immediately raise a red flag to the background check guys. Putting it on your resume probably does more harm than good though because if your interviewer happens to ask about it you could be forced to tell him/or or lie, neither of which is good. I think if you are getting a top notch MBA you gain nothing by putting a six week, four year old internship on your resume.
