Considerations:

1) Fit 2) Group 3) Location

Ceteris paribus on #2 and #3, go with fit all day. You might see different types of deals at an HL/Greenhill compared to a Citi/Barclays, but not necessarily better or worse. I would find the team/culture/environment that you would be most likely to thrive in, which will maximize your exit options more than any marginal prestige one way or the other.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

I appreciate the help. I guess what I want to stress here is that fit is not something I am so much concerned about. I am a pretty personable person, I should mesh just about anywhere. I am just worried about the exit opps after my 2 years. Obviously I would like to be poached, but if that does not happen I want to set myself up for top 3 B school or competitive PE candidate, which place helps me the most?

Sorry, I need to make an example out of you for a second, okay? It's for the good of WSO.

Hundreds of you guys and gals apply to be SA's, and all day during recruiting I heard like a broken record, "Your team is the best fit, I really got along with you." And for some of you, I know you're telling the truth. For the rest of you, don't you know how easy it is for us to tell that you're lying? You would get 4/4 offers revoked if you told your bank recruiters that fit doesn't matter. It matters a hell of a lot to us, by the way.

Okay, real advice. If you truly want the best "exit opps" then decide where you want to exit TO. If you want to be at a PE shop in Los Angeles, think about HL's headquarters in LA. If you want to be at some PE shop that draws most of its people from Greenhill, join there. Do some actual legwork and find out who goes where from where - LinkedIn is a great tool for this, but even PE websites have bios for their team members (even Associates) which talks about where they banked, where they did their MBA, etc. Your case is not cut and dry, sorry to disappoint you with the truth that you'll have to do some soul-searching behind "top 3 B school" placement.

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
