Got a hirevue at a BB, but my GPA is crap
I was invited to do a hirevue for a top BB (GS, MS, JPM) for a junior equity research role. I was very excited, and I am preparing for it rigorously.
The problem is, my GPA is terrible, at 2.9. I am from a non-target.
I keep it off of my resume, and I am wondering if it comes up, will it kill me in a superday?
I think I got the hirevue because the vp of early careers is an alum, and so are a bunch of his hr analysts.
I have good reasons for it and a good story, I had about a ~1.7 average my freshman and sophomore years, got kicked out of school, came back and got about an average ~3.45 my junior, senior and 5th year. I also have relevant experience, doing an internship in management consulting and being a research analyst for my schools investment fund, and successfully pitching stocks to be added to it.
I have impressed others with my story of my GPA, im just worried that it would be an instant ding no matter what at this firm, since there are so many qualified candidates.
You won't be asked about your GPA in an Hirevue. They're all behavioral questions with some market-related questions thrown in every once in a while. If you get a superday, then you probably won't get asked about your GPA unless you bring it up yourself. The interviewers have your resume in front of them, and tbh if you nail everything else they won't care about your GPA. Good luck homie! Hope you land that offer!
