Living in outside boroughs (Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn) of NYC for IB SA

I will be interning this summer at a MM bank located in Midtown. Currently, I attend a university located in NYC but not in Manhattan. I share an off-campus apartment and pay a fair amount in rent (Nothing too high but more than what most college students pay who do not live in NYC). In all the commute to the office from my apartment is around 45 minutes. From my understanding, most interns live close to their office (less than 20 minutes). Given that I really want to commit myself to getting a return offer during this 10-week internship, should I try to find a place closer to the office and pay double rent? Will the 45-minute commute make my internship a lot more challenging? TIA

*I have already signed the lease on my off-campus apartment and can not back out.

When I spent a summer in NYC I lived in Brooklyn, and the office was in Midtown about 30 mins away. Personally I really enjoyed living in BK, allowed me to see more of the city than if I were to live a few blocks from the office (this may not be important to you as you already attend school in the city), as well as experience different culture. I also liked how there was a change in pace from BK and Manhattan. If you’re not a big morning person living close is prob better for you, but if you can save money on rent and find routes to cut down on travel time i think that’s a win

I own my own home in the suburbs. Throwing out Jersey City as an affordable option as that's where my apartment is for my mid town commute. Safe and easy to get back and forth via PATH at the WTC.

Like the unadjusted- only with a little bit extra.

Queens is great as long as you are close to subways. Manhattan rent $5K makes it insane for an SA your housing stipend wouldn't even cover 2 months after tax.
