Starting a job at 24, anyone else have the insecurity of starting late?
I recently received an offer for a client-facing finance job in NYC. Its not IB or PE or anything like this, its more of a market analysis/buy side reporter role. I graduated last may, after having to take a 5th year of college. I am turning 24 next week, and I start this new role early September. The pay is good but it isn't IB/PE/ER/consulting pay, but this role could definitely be a launchpad for things like that.
I just feel kind of insecure finally starting a real job at 24, knowing there are people younger than me making twice what I make, even though I know I will have a high earning dynamic career in the long run. Anyone else have this insecurity and have any tips to deal with it?
There are tons of people in your shoes. International students that had to do mandatory military service for around 2 years, people that took some extra time to graduate, people that took a gap year (especially during COVID), etc. As many people say, life is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be plenty of years for you to work
This. If someone is going to work 30-40 years, starting 1-2 years late is nothing but a blip.
