Drinking On The Job?

Hey monkeys!

Current A1 at a BB (GS/JMP/MS). Ever since I got here, my industry team (TMT) has been doing “Tipsy Tuesdays” where you have to drink a beer every 90 minutes (2 hours for the ladies), starting once you arrive at the office. It’s a fun idea, and usually by the time we leave the office we are around 12 beers in. I’ve always assumed this was normal.

This Friday however, our team was informed that one of the A2s was fired because he was caught drinking on the job. This was shocking news to me; was tipsy Tuesday never sanctioned by HR?

Anyways, I’ll keep it short: do y’all’s banks do tipsy Tuesdays?

To help guide the discussion, please consider:
1) What is the drug culture like at your bank? (5 points)
2) To what extent do you haze the intents? (3 points)
3) Have you ever tried a pants beer? (2 points)

That’s a little extreme, but having a drink in office to celebrate a deal closing is very common. My one banking MD was absolutely obsessed with The Smurfs, and every time we closed a deal, he’d call the team into the office and make us Electric Smurf cocktails. Malibu rum, pineapple juice, sprite, and you guessed it: blue curaçao. Served over ice. At the bar, he’d order us round after round of Smurf Bombs.

I can’t smell coconut or pineapple to this day without having flashbacks.
