Congrats to BlackHat, 2012 WSO Member of the Year

We're very happy to announce that WSO super-user Blackhat was voted by you, the monkeys of WSO, as the 2012 WSO Member of the Year (see the poll results here). BlackHat (HF Portfolio Manager) has been a tremendously helpful user over the last year (384:48 sb:ms ratio) offering up a mix of helpful comments/criticism mixed with his own style of snarky (yet clever) remarks. From all of us at wso, THANK YOU for your contributions of the past year.

In a close second with 27% of the votes was SirTradesaLot, who additionally has been a great contributor to the site, and would have been a very worthy member of the year as well. And in third was CompBanker, who made a few voters change their vote with his recent "instant classic" post "To anyone considering an MBA".

As a way to pay homage, take a look through some of Blackhat's classic posts & toss out some extra silver banana's if you haven't already.

Blackhat Loves ORLY ...O REALLY?!? I asked why.

"The Slow "Mediocritization" of the Bulge Brackets"

This comment in the "hardest interview question" thread (that had me cracking up when I first read it):

In a 2 on 1 where I was the silent #2 interviewing some nervous banker, my only line was "are you trying to f*ck us over?" The kid had NO CLUE what to say. Got visibly uncomfortable and said he wasn't sure what I meant. My co-worker goes "why didn't you say no?" Kid just froze like a f*ckin' deer in the headlights.

Also make sure to check out the interview series I did with SirTradesaLot - see Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

and this very high quality post about negotiating during the interview process.

So to wrap this up, we can't say thank you enough to all the members on WSO contributing high quality content each and every day, WSO wouldn't be what it is without you guys.

Congrats Blackhat and thank you to all of the members that made 2012 awesome. We passed 100,000 members and we're on a race to get to 200,000 before 2013 is over....all thanks to members like the ones mentioned above and many others that weren't mentioned.

Special shout out / thanks to all of the Certified Users that continue to show an incredible patience and willingness to give back.

Thanks, Patrick

Thanks guys, this board has been infinitely more helpful / fun / insightful than I would have expected and I owe everyone on it a thank you for that. I came here initially as a lurker in college, came back to consider an internship program and thought it would only be like a 2 week thing... but have been hooked ever since. Everyone should be giving a big thanks to all the people on the poll, especially guys like SirTradesALot and CompBanker, who's been on these boards helping people out for what probably seems like forever. Thanks again for all the people who've appreciated my posts and given me ideas for them in the past!

I was pissed about that high schooler post, but other than that you're one of my heroes on this site. Keep kicking ass and taking names man

And Flake.

Congrats BlackHat!

I really have enjoyed this site because it reminds me of how I used to think when I was younger and it's cool to see the optimism and challenges that people are facing as they are entering/starting out in the workforce. I had no idea this world of finance existed when I was younger and would have loved a site like this while I was in high school or college (who the fuck am I kidding, I Iove it now). The other thing I like is that people can get real assessments here without people 'trying to be nice' and importantly can learn about what they can do differently to enhance their odds of success.

Thanks to all who voted for me, I really appreciate it. If I had known there was a competition, I might not have been a dick to so many people, so sorry to those of you who fall in that category.

Too bad BlackHat doesn't have mad preftige.

One day I'll make my way to a global macro. And if you're lucky enough I'll take you with me.
