Asset Management Sales - SA and Exit Options

I have an offer for sales and marketing (not placed in a specific department as of yet retail/workplace/institutional) for a large AM in London, but I'm not very well versed on the AM industry in general and how a role in the distribution/client relationship side ranks alongside AM investments and also S&T or ECM in an IB in terms of future exit options, but more importantly salary and salary progression.

Can, and more importantly if pay is my priority, should the role be leveraged to move into a more lucrative buy-side role if that exists?

Also can anyone provide insights into what in a role like this? Hours, stress, salary, etc.

Thanks for any help

Sales / Client Relationship Mgmt positions at major asset managers can be quite lucrative. Essentially, there are two primary silos in AM, managing money and the distributing of that money management. In the distribution side, you'll see breakdown between institutional, PWM, and Retail. So working with large pension funds, corps, endowments, family offices or supporting brokers. Although this site seems to thumb their nose at sales jobs, a good wholesaler supporting brokers can make 7 figures (know many of them) and 500k is a very realistic and expected bogey once you're fairly experienced. Institutional guys can do the same.

Big money goes to to the PMs but the sales side can be quite interesting, lucrative and enjoyable.
