Asset Management to Corp Dev/M&A
Hey all,
I realise it's a little odd, but been thinking recently about whether or not the skills acquired in active asset management (think experience in shops like Fidelity, Wellington, etc) lend themselves to a career in corporate development/M&A, at the very companies you used to cover? Imo, it seems possible, since you're required to have an in-depth understanding of the industry and positioning of the companies within a vertical, plus the opportunities and threats facing the company. Of course, you'd lack the deal structuring/execution experience.
Any thoughts on this? I'm not in AM myself but was thinking about various paths and the opportunities they might open up.
You said it: Of course, you'd lack the deal structuring/execution experience.
I’ve seen it happen from both buy and sell side. impossible? No. Way harder than just doing banking? Yes
