ECM -> Asset Management

Hi all,

I'm currently doing a traineeship at a universal bank in NL. The traineeship is ending pretty soon and I have narrowed down my next career choices to Corporate Lending and ECM.

Right now I'm trying to find out which option would be best for me, and yes I also take exit opps into account. I have read several times that exit opps for ECM are not that great. But I was wondering if a transition from ECM to Asset Management is a likely one.

I'm not planning on doing ECM because of exit opps alone, although it is still one of the factors I want to take into account when choosing my next career step.

Thanks!

Most ECM bankers I know stay with the bank longer and are less keen on doing a fast exit compared to M&A bankers... I would say AM and HF are options but even within ECM, there are very different roles but as everywhere else it always comes down to yourself & your network

But someone actually working in ECM will be able to give you a better answer...
