They should have told you a potential start date when they offered. Start date is about the only thing they are flexible on.
did you recently got your offer with start date? When I got my offer it was still too early for start dates. They only asked for a preferred start date. A couple of friends that got offers from other consulting firms are starting to get start dates these days.
