Advice for Rx consulting recruiting for undergrad

Hi everyone,

As there is very little information online on the recruiting process for RX consulting , I wanted to ask if anyone had advice on how to prepare, what the interviews look like, etc.

I have a phone call with a recruiter soon, and wanted to know what to expect.

Will the interview involve casing and be more like standard MBB undergrad interviews, or will there be IB-esque technicals or something else entirely?

Are there any resources anyone would recommend? I know RX interviews is recommended for RX IB, but is there an equivalent for RX consulting?

Thanks!

For RX consulting recruiting, here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Interview Structure: RX consulting interviews often blend elements of both consulting and investment banking. Expect exposure to case interviews similar to MBB, but also be prepared for technical questions that delve into financial concepts, operational restructuring, and legal aspects. Unlike standard consulting interviews, RX consulting may require a deeper understanding of financial modeling, 13-week cash flow forecasts, and court-required filings.

  2. Preparation Tips:

    • Case Prep: Utilize consulting case prep resources, as these will help you with the problem-solving and strategic thinking aspects of the interview. The WSO Consulting Case Interview Prep materials are a great starting point.
    • Technical Knowledge: Brush up on financial modeling and valuation techniques. The WSO Financial Modeling & Valuation Bootcamp could be particularly useful.
    • Industry Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the restructuring process, including operational and legal components. This will help you stand out in interviews.
  3. Resources:

    • For case prep, check out the "Consulting Case Interview Prep" section on WSO.
    • For technicals, consider the "Investment Banking Interview Prep" and "Financial Modeling Resources" available on WSO.
    • If you're looking for books or case studies specific to RX, the WSO thread titled "What is the best book to get ready for interviews in Restructuring?" might have some valuable recommendations.
  4. What to Expect in Interviews:

    • Behavioral Questions: These are crucial, as RX consulting involves frequent interaction with C-suite executives. Be ready to articulate your story and demonstrate strong communication skills.
    • Case Studies: These may include operational restructuring scenarios or financial problem-solving exercises.
    • Technical Questions: Be prepared for IB-style technicals, especially around capital structure and financial forecasting.
  5. Additional Advice:

    • Networking is key. Use your phone call with the recruiter to ask insightful questions about the firm's specific interview process and culture.
    • Practice explaining complex financial and operational concepts clearly, as this is a critical skill in RX consulting.

For more detailed insights, you can explore the WSO threads on RX consulting and interview prep. Good luck with your recruiting process!
