So I took my annual stab at seeing if I can crack consulting in the lateral market. To my pleasant surprise, I got traction at a great shop for the niche I'm interested in. I finish a few interviews, receive details of the technical round and eventually clear that as well.
I then get the confirmation for the last interview and am advised to send my availability to the backup as the primary HR lead will be away. I follow up immediately and promptly get ghosted. I then follow up periodically on a weekly basis to no avail. Now I don't know what a backup HR rep does, but if it takes more than 3-4 weeks to respond to a candidate at the goddamn end of the damn process, what the heck do you do all day.
Anyway, the primary comes back and sees a bunch of unanswered emails as she was on CC. And after a week of checking, looks like they filled the role. Maybe from a different rep who didn't ghost the candidate for a month. I was given the vague, noncommittal "we will keep you in mind for future opportunities".
At this point, I have a greater chance of being struck by lightening than entering this field in the Canadian market.
