Associate Consultants Lifestyle

As I am approaching my graduation date to earn my PhD and switch careers from the auto industry into consulting, I was wondering how do consultants run errands? how do they get for example their yearly physical or their dental check ups? what if someone has braces like me? (it is a pretty funny question) but really if I will be out of town 4 days a week and Fridays usually are till 5 pm how am I gonna find time to do that?

On the other hand, I assume consultants cannot take 1 day off ! it is either a full week or none because usually they fly out on Mondays as a team till Thursday to be on the client site... is it possible to take 1 day off and catch up with the team later during the week ? I do not know... anyone with experience to address that, I would appreciate. (Please serious answers).

In my current job time is very flexible we get to go out and run our errands, or take a half day to see the doctor etc... but I do not think this is possible as a consultant !

Thank you in advance :)
