Attempt to Lateral to Consuting Now or After B-School?

Hi All,

I am currently at the 2-year mark in my current role at a SWF looking at PE-style direct investments. Joined the company in 2015 after undergrad, back when i was considering either finance or consulting roles. Having spent about 2 years in finance now, am looking to finally make the jump and segway into consulting.

Am considering two options - (1) Stay one more year, apply for B-School now for 2018, and recruit for a post-MBA MBB role, and (2) speak / network with consultants, try to lateral directly for a pre-MBA role at MBB (might skip the MBA then if this happens).

I could run with both options concurrently. Anyone have any thoughts on which options would be preferable and why? Am indifferent to the financial costs involved for B-school so that isn't a consideration. Was also wondering if the reapplication restrictions at MBB might be an issue, should i reapply while at my MBA having failed at lateral interviews before. Thanks in advance for your comments!
