After making that much in real estate, how do you not have any money left?
Anyways, you're clearly a go-getter and I'm sure employers would be impressed with your business experience.
I would agree; leverage your business experience. There's no experience like operating your own business, unless that's a very hands-off business.
Just my $0.02, if I were in your situation, I'd go back to real estate/sales, make that $xxx, xxx for a few years until you are living comfortably, and then perhaps do it part-time while you push for what you want to do. You'd obviously pigeon hole yourself a bit in the real estate market, but I think you'd find an understanding boss at a smaller consulting shop who'd hear you out on your story (i.e., I've been making great money in real estate, but I've always had the goal of management consulting, pursued an education and got great marks, went back to real estate to build a foundation to provide some security while I pursue these consulting positions).
I should mention that my real estate work was leveraging the revenue from my other business. In this ridiculous market it was quite easy actually. With the revenue gone, it would be near impossible to leverage on a decent scale again. But i could find another way to get back into real estate, still I am focused on starting a career at this point.
Most of the money was made and spent before I was old enough to drink, you can imagine thats pretty easy to do. I made a lot through a private export business that... I've since had to close. I haven't made anything for about two years as Ive been going to school, "finding myself"... etc. I live in one of the most expensive places ever, that added with school expenses some poor decisions and Ive got enough to pay for MBA and thats about it. Oh, and I had to settle some legal issues a few years back and took a big chunk out of me.
Thanks, I I know I can work hard, but this feels like a whole new arena for me. Ive never had a corporate job or even had to interview that much. I'm ready for a career, I really want to take on the challenge.
You can give sales a try. It sounds like with your past business exp that you may be able to jump into a company.
Enteprise sales guys make a ton of money. If you hustle and are good there is also quite a bit of stability.
You may be able to use the real estate experience to convince someone at SAP or Oracle to give you a shot.
