BCG Second Deadline

Saw that the first deadline was the priority deadline; unfortunately, I had not yet decided to do consulting by June 23 (0 cases at the time), so I didn't apply. Any ideas on how to optimize office choice?

If your alma mater is a target school, then the office in that city/closest to that city is a good place to start. The office closest to your hometown is also a good choice if you're looking for a "free" compelling angle on why you want to join that office if it comes up in the interviews. In general though, pick the office you acutally want to work for rather than trying to game the system for an "easy office" because that generally doesn't work the way you would expect. The few seats available at the "easy offices" are already going to people who have some sort of connection to that office.

Currently at one of the three biggest BCG offices, and I got in through the second deadline. I'd say about only 2-4 of my office's 50+ undergrad intern class came from the second deadline. The big offices will definitely accept some people from the second deadline, but there's no guarantee on the number of those spots. I also get the feeling that hiring limits are soft, and they might decide to accept a lot of people or no one at the second deadline depending on how partners feel after final round interviews.

You should pick the office location where you want to work post-grad and/or where you have an actual tie (worked there, live there, go to school there, or closest big city in your region). My two cents is Boston > New York because office sizes are similar but way more people want to be in New York.

Do you know if they're clear about which offices are full before the second deadline, or do you just kinda have to hope it works out? I'd rather not waste a slot with a place I know I'm guaranteed to be rejected.

I also grew up in Jersey, so I'm thinking of putting down NJ, but not sure if that ends up being super competitive from all the people who try to use it as an NYC backdoor.

I think they let you know which offices have slots.

I have no view on NJ, but if I were you,I’d just go with NYC instead.

Ok coming back to this I have it on good authority that slots will only be offered in available offices. Some offices will fill up solely on first deadline applicants. Classes are smaller this year.

Damn why did hiring have to slow now of all times 😭

At least I can apply again FT...thanks!
