BCG Summer Internship Recruiting offering Mock Interview Before Actual Interview: How Common is This?

Non-target, rising junior, got a call with an interview offer about 2 weeks ago out of nowhere (literally out of nowhere as I only applied to a diversity program and got rejected in March and my resume didn't even have my currently finance internship), and last week I've got an email with the offer of a mock interview of going through a case study with a consultant. Not only I am wondering how common is this but also, should I take this mock interview as an evaluative process as well? Like should I be nervous they'll be evaluating me and then comparing me with my real interview in 3 weeks? I just want to be prepared so I'd love to know more if anyone has been through this.

This is very common at BCG. As far as I know it’s not evaluated (I think the mock interviewers say this outright), but definitely use the experience to get a feel for the difficulty level and style of their cases. My advice would be to make sure you’re friendly towards your interviewer, since it never hurts to have someone root for you internally. I’m also at a non target and went through the MBB recruitment process, so feel free to DM with questions. Best of luck!

These aren’t evaluative at all. As long as you’re polite, coachable and take feedback well, you don’t have to worry about this hurting your chances in any way.
