Boutique Consulting Internship to Bigger Firm

Hello all, I'm a junior at an Ivy League School. I recently accepted a summer internship position for my junior summer at a boutique consulting firm.

I'm interested in working full-time in the future at a bigger firm and would really appreciate advice on what steps I might need to take in order to get there? The bigger firms (McKinsey, Bain, etc.) do recruit at my school but I wasn't able to get a summer internship position at any of them this summer.

You're at a target and have an internship in consulting for this summer - that's great! Two questions we need answered before giving you accurate advice:

  1. Is your GPA competitive for your school? i.e. above 3.5
  2. Did you get interviews anywhere this fall? And if so, did you make it to final round?

If your GPA is below 3.5 or you were rejected after first round a all of MBB, getting MBB full-time is going to be really tough. If your GPA is above 3.5 and you either didn't receive an interview, or made it to final rounds, then you have a shot. Just network with alumni at MBB so they can be sure to recommend you for an interview, then practice your cases.

Best of luck!
