Business process Reengineering project

How much valuable ( say in terms of experience, learning, relevance etc) are BPR projects? Do Top consulting firms typically do a lot of BPR stuff.

On a more general note what are the broad factors for a project that would make it seem really impressive on your resume?

Thanks in advance!

One of my undergrad engineering courses was on this. From what I understood, BPR takes a more micro approach to business. A lot of my friends found it useful when applying for IT consulting jobs. I think top strategy consulting firms are more about macro level strategic thinking. I may be wrong. Any other comments?

Also, it shows you are analytical, so it can't hurt to have it on your resume. Because I know what it is, it would get my attention, but for others i'm not sure.

in my opinion BPR is far too fluffy to be of much value, lots of academic waffle and no real talk on actually how to improve the process. In reality all hammer and davenport are saying is "Before > Magic Happens > After", Hammer only goes into the issue of the actual improvement in 14 out of the 250 pages of his book, 11 of these pages are used for the description of a case

but hey, if the clients paying for it then its a cushy job to be in :p
