Both have pros and cons. Capgemini is largely an outsourcing and IT consultancy. It has about 125,000 employees, but only 3,000 within the Capgemini Consulting organization.

Within Capgemini, there are several groups that cover financial services. The main group is the Financial Services Business Unit. It falls within the 'Apps' division. They are IT consultants. The financial services team with Capgemini Consulting is small, but does real management consulting work (whatever that means).

A&M is a restructuring shop that lost its focus. They got a massive contract for Lehman Brothers in 2008 that gave them the cash flow to attempt to grow new business units. I suspect the 'benchmarking' team you are talking about sits within their 'Business Consulting' division. Either way, you wouldn't really want to do benchmarking. It's just a survey service with a bit of analysis to let executives know where they stand versus their peers in some aspect of their business.

I guess it depends largely on personal preference, but Capgemini might actually let you do some consulting work whereas A&M's benchmarking practice almost surely will not.
