Canadian student non-biz major, is networking my only shot?

Hi guys, I am student currently attending Western University in Canada, my major is sociology. The Ivey business program at my school one of the top target schools but i am not sure if other programs are considered as the same. I am aiming for offices in Canada or Korea. My current GPA is 3.4 / 4.0, which I believe is rather low but i am confident that i can boost it up to 3.5 ~ 3.6 by the time i graduate. I have researched and read that undergrad major is not too important for consulting but I am not sure for my case since i am not sure if i am considered as a target school student. I want a real answer from people in the consulting world if I am not even eligible to get an interview with my academic stance at the moment. I have read numerous times how important networking is. Is networking my only way into consulting?

thank you for taking the time to read

You are right that majors aren’t as important in consulting compared to banking. Heck my peers come from all sorts of backgrond. However, your 3.4 gpa will be an issue for top firms. You’ll have to bring it up to 3.5-3.6. As an interviewer, there’s no reason to give you an interview over the Ivey kids with the same stance unless you have amazing work experience or extracurricular. It will even be a more uphill battle in Korea as consulting firms are only open to SKY+KAIST+Pohang Tech+Top 10 US schools + Oxbridge+LSE+Mcgill (not that other schools can’t break in but 90% of the body consists of those pedigree). So yes you’ll have to network and build connections to break in.

Breaking in from sociology at Western is going to be tough to begin with given the number of ivey students interested in consulting. It's much harder without a top GPA in your program. That said, if you have solid internships and EC's it may be possible to land a couple interviews by networking hard.
