Consulting Networking - Is it creepy to work out someone's email?

So I'm preparing for FT UK consulting recruiting and looking to network a bit. I've found some school alum that seem really cool and I want to reach out to, but deciding how is best to contact them.

My immediate thought is to go for LinkedIn but people seem to suggest response rate is better on email and that you should find their firm's email structure and then cold email that by plugging their name in. M

My concern is that it would not be considered acceptable to just randomly work out someones email and that it might make the recipient feel uncomfortable, while the functionality is clearly built in to LinkedIn. So I guess my question is that do people that receive these emails from randoms who they never gave their email to consider it weird, or is it normally received well?
