Consulting not it transition to finance

Hi all, so I'm a '26 grad and will be starting in management consulting soon. I've been thinking about career paths and how consulting is a dying industry. I'm thinking about transitioning out to equity research and possibly a career in publics because I actually enjoy investing a lot on my own time. How should I go about this? Any advice would be appreciated – I have no clue how recruiting in finance works. Thanks!
