Consulting vs IB for Corporate Roles?
Rising senior with an ib return offer looking to go into the corporate side after a few years. While it seems to be one of the potential exits from IB, it seems like consulting has a (relatively) better work/life balance while also placing really well (better?) into corporate strategy/dev roles after a few years as well. Was looking into accelerating some consulting processes for full time, but not sure if I should just stick with what I have right now. Am I having a "grass is greener" line of thinking for trying to pursue consulting, or would it actually be a better route to start off before transitioning to corporate roles?
Same exact boat here; a little concerned though about rejecting the FT offer due to possible restricted recruiting this fall as CO firms might’ve extended FT offers to all their interns and economic outlook remains uncertain. Any color on this would be great
You’re right, MBB and other T2 firms have our FT offers to their interns prior to the fall. CO recruiting will be a bloodbath this fall given lower headcount requirement and a larger applicant pool
Yeah that's what I had heard. However, I know consulting usually recruits more heavily for FT compared to their relatively smaller intern classes; any thoughts on how extensive FT recruiting would be compared to previous years would be great, too.
Thats what I have been thinking too. I go to a target for both IB and consulting, so I reached out to the recruiting teams, but I am not sure I will be able to accelerate in time. I do think I would prefer consulting more and maybe even in better times I would take the risk of declining the return, but it just seems too risky to decline an offer in this current economy. Also I know consulting recruits more FT, but automatic offers(I assume even higher percentage of those kids would want to return now) and potentially lower class sizes for the incoming year would make it even more difficult. And tbh, I would probably only be interested in MBB and most of the tier 2 shops, but in total thats only maybe 6-8 places so I would essentially be betting on one of those working out.
