Corporate Strategy SA -> MBB/T2 Re-Recruit

Hi all,

This was a rough recruiting cycle for me, and despite getting final rounds at an MBB/T2, my best offer was for a corporate strategy program (a well-respected one here, so far as I can tell). However, I am considering re-recruiting for 2025 FT as I think I am still more interested in consulting and would like to keep my options open. How hard is it going to be to break into MBB or a T2? I know that MBB typically opens up quite a few positions full time, but do they recruit out of corporate strategy programs? Also, do T2s typically open up a lot of spots or mainly retain their SA classes like the T3s? Any opinions on the economic/hiring outlook?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there!

Breaking into MBB or T2 consulting firms from a corporate strategy role can be challenging, but it's definitely not impossible. Here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  • MBB Recruiting: MBB firms do open up quite a few positions for full-time (FT) roles, and they are known to recruit candidates with diverse backgrounds, including those from corporate strategy programs. Your experience in corporate strategy could be seen as valuable, especially if you can demonstrate strategic thinking and a solid understanding of business operations.

  • T2 Recruiting: Tier 2 (T2) consulting firms also recruit for FT positions, but the number of spots can vary. While they may retain a significant number of their summer analysts (SA), they also look for new talent to fill additional roles. Your chances of breaking into T2 firms may be higher if you have a strong performance in your corporate strategy role and can network effectively.

  • Recruiting from Corporate Strategy: Both MBB and T2 firms recruit candidates from corporate strategy roles. It's important to highlight the transferable skills and relevant experiences you've gained that align with consulting.

  • Economic/Hiring Outlook: The hiring outlook can fluctuate based on economic conditions, and it's hard to predict with certainty. However, consulting firms generally try to maintain a pipeline of talent to stay competitive and adapt to market demands.

  • Advice: To improve your chances, focus on networking with consultants at your target firms, prepare thoroughly for case interviews, and ensure your resume highlights the impact and results from your corporate strategy role. Also, consider reaching out to alumni or connections who made similar transitions for insights and advice.

Keep your head up and continue to build your skillset in your current role. With determination and strategic preparation, you can position yourself well for re-recruiting in 2025. Good luck!
