Absolutely big 4 are you nuts? Leverage that network for following summer return and continue to push inwards to adjacent / potential strategy teams. Make friends with your managers and continue to build a network during your time there. Management / Strategy consulting is extremely shit rn with many firms even within MBB cutting headcount by a large margin. You won’t get in now, so take your time to develop your professional profile and enjoy yourself.
Getting in b4, although shit to some, will give you some sort recognizable name on your CV that you can semi-leverage over time. Only then will you know if you can get in internally / with another firm / do the MBA route, nothing wrong in that.
imo you can return back to smaller tech consulting roles next year if you want after b4 is on your CV, I think the inverse is harder.
I strongly disagree. The issue is that OPs role at B4 will be accounting, which runs the risk of him being pigeonholed into that area when it comes to rerecruiting. There’s no guarantee he can network into a consulting position when every one of his peers in audit/tax want the same, and when trying to recruit an accounting position may be a challenge.
Tech Consulting at RSM/Proviti as a sophomore should be better for his resume when it comes to rerecruiting junior year for B4 - he’ll get the chance to actually try out the consulting he’s interested in and recruiters will know that he has an idea of what the role entails.
Despite the difference in prestige, the role itself should be key here.
You can easily spin rerecruiting B4 accounting --> consulting, and B4 >>> in terms of brand name. Lmao prospect
Not a prospect FWIW, can’t be bothered to fix it.
These offers are for my junior year, not for sophomore. Does same concept apply?
Yes, you need to avoid the risk of pigeonholing yourself in accounting if consulting is the goal for you. If need be, you can do 2-3 years at a RSM/Proviti and then make the step up to B4 if still interested and having transferable skills.
Much easier than trying to shoehorn an internal transition into a role which every other accountant also wants due to better play + stronger WLB. You want to do consulting, stop overthinking and just pick the consulting role.
