Does the average person off the street have the potential to be successful in MBB ?

I've seen on WSO a common perception that anyone off the street with strong work ethic has the potential to be good a good IB Associate post MBA since its essentially basic math and Excel that can be learned over time. Does this same thing hold true for MBB consulting post MBA? Assuming you get the offer (with no relevant prior experience), can an average person without a business background learn everything one needs to know over time by putting in extra hours?

It depends on how you frame the question.

Can somebody without a business background learn and excel? Absolutely, this is why MBB hires so many non-business kids from top schools.

If you mean average person in the true sense of the word, I don't think so, just because MBB requires being able to keep up with some extremely smart people, and there really just aren't extra hours around to put in when you're already working 60-70/wk.
