Experienced hire offer postponed
I was recruited as an experienced industry hire into one of the strategy consulting firms. I received a verbal offer, was waiting on the official package, and then told that there were no open positions across the firm. HR advised that some spots my open up later this year and would reach out if and when they do.
Anyone ever hear of this happening at MBB, Deloitte, Strategy&, or similar firms? How did it turn out?
Had this happen to me at BB 4-5 yrs ago (S&T role). Verbal offer received, waiting on management to sign off and get the paperwork to me and then was told they cannot add headcount. I kept in touch with them for a bit but never wound up working there
Seems like a nicer way of saying "sorry, we found someone else" or "we fucked up"
Thanks for the comments. I think it's a headcount issue and bad timing. They're flush with both recent undergrad/MBA grads and summers to staff current engagements, so I'll have to wait for the crowd to thin out a bit.
OP, without asking what firm you were interviewing for, what type of work was it? (Industry and function)?
Happened to me at Deloitte. Same reason - incoming MBAs needed to be staffed on a project. Which firm did you interview with?
happened to me as well, they just kept delaying the start date until i said forget it. this is why you shouldn't feel bad for reneging an offer or leveraging multiple offers. they don't feel bad when conditions change on their end.
Exactly. Loyal to yourself and do what is best for you
