EY-Parthenon vs. Alvarez & Marsal

Hi all,

I am deciding between the two offers; EY-Parthenon's M&A Strategy practice (legacy OTS) and Alvarez and Marsal's (A&M) Private Equity Performance Improvement practice. This will be my first FT job after graduation.

Similar office locations available (US), while starting compensation is quite similar but most likely will be more on A&M's side after a few years. Honestly not sure how long to stay in consulting for or what I'd want to do after consulting, but I have considered working in a PE operations team or a strategy/corp dev role for Fortune 500.

“I spoke with Michael who works in Equity Research, we talked about some career paths that I can take and why Asset Management is a good fit. During our talk, we went over my CV and were able to pick out some points that were relevant to AM. We then discussed my next steps if I wanted to pursue AM, going over what firms to target and what level to reach. When discussing the level to reach, Michael went over 2 areas where I can build on and focus my attention to help me stand out when I apply to some of the AM firms we talked about. He mentioned why and how they are relevant along with what to start with. Michael was extremely reassuring and kind throughout our talk and I was happy that he reached out to me on Slack when I put my first introductory message in the general page. We need our talk with potentially meeting again to do a mock stock pitch or just to catch up on my progression.”

I think Parthenon wins here. It has a much stronger brand and I imagine the pay is much higher. Not sure how the re-org with OTS will work out, but Parthenon takes it regardless.
